The PortoDeiPiceni, in its own small way, is an internet guide that allows you to find information, news, data and websites concerning the territory of the provinces of Ascoli Piceno and Teramo, in central Italy.
To facilitate the search within the tens of published pages and the hundreds of cataloged sites, there are several tools:
Our archive is built "on sight" ie all the sites listed have been visited in person, not by automatic systems
It is an archive of sites (domains) and not of pages for which a summary of the contents of the entire website has been made to create a title, a description and a series of keywords.
For these reasons our archive is different from that of search engines, Google in the first place.
We have also added a link to the Facebook page / profile as many internet users are subscribed to this social network and use it regularly.
We still prefer the website as it is "freely" accessible, while to consult Facebook it is necessary to register; moreover, the contents and presence on social networks are bound to comply with the rules of use established unilaterally by the manager; for this reason any content on Facebook could be censored or deleted, even if legal.
Furthermore, for the activities of hotels, restaurants and the like we have published the link to the Trip Advisor reviews page. Also in this case we consider Tripadvisor a useful tool to get an "idea" on the quality of the services offered, but without claiming infallibility.
The websites were cataloged into categories and subcategories chosen, defined and organized by our editorial staff: this classification (which was a standard at the time of the Yahoo directory !) has been almost eliminated as it is easier to do keyword research.
At the moment it is not possible to submit a site.
As of January 2021 there are 2,284 sites "Italian speaking"
If you are looking for italian speaking sites, please go to the main version of the directory
To remedy the above problem, it may be convenient to activate a search engine: one or more "keywords" that "probably" concern the topic we are looking for are entered in the form. For example, to search for a computer store we could write "computer" in the box and press the "start search" button
The problem is that in addition to the computer stores, among the results we will also find sites of programs (of computer science), of enthusiasts (of computer science), of books etc.
The keywords with which the sites are cataloged in the engine archives are derived from the title of the site, from the description, from keywords hidden in the html code or from the text of the pages.
Sometimes it is therefore advisable to enter more words to do "advanced" searches, for example to set the search for sites that contain both "computer" and "shop": usually this is obtained by writing "computer AND shop" or "computer + shop ".
Using Boolean operators is much more practical and functional than you think to limit the really interesting results, but it varies from engine to engine:
"a AND b" & nbsp; or "a + b" or sometimes "a b" are used to have sites that contain both a and b, eg. if the "a" is missing, the site is discarded;
"a OR b" or sometimes "a b" are used to have sites containing either "a" or "b" or both;
Other engines allow you to set wildcard characters of the type "cont *" which is equivalent to searching for account, accounts, count, conta (and also contu, contr, etc). In Porto dei Piceni you can type "cont" to get the same result.
Try using our search engine now:
For the search with the "engine" that is by inserting keywords in the modules:
Originally internet were static sites and pages reachable with the "http" protocol
Then came the social networks.
Currently many operators (private companies, associations, public bodies) manage and update the contents present in the "social networks" more frequently; this happens because the update does not require programming or web design knowledge and can be done from anywhere and at any time with a trivial smartphone.
But be careful: not all people and / or companies use or access social networks; the social networks belong to private companies (often US) that can establish particularly restrictive rules for the use of their services, with the risk that their presence in the virtual world will be canceled in a few moments.
The search by category, which in the past was the main one, has been "frozen"; however the sites are still classified into macro-categories .
